The Sleepless Seven

Too hyped for sleeping last night, I tried calming my brain by jotting down the first seven words (or things) that popped into my noggin. Thinking the act of writing these words would be enough to lull me to sleep, I planned on creating a silly little story from them later, but my brain was on overdrive and my pen shouted, "Don't stop!"

Here are my sleepless seven:

  • Captain Crunch
  • Dandelion Bay
  • Feathers
  • Lincoln Logs
  • Turbine
  • Shells
  • Hammer
  • Zip-line

The following story, starting chronologically with the first to last idea, was the result:

Captain Crunch sails the seven seas, but his heart resides in Dandelion Bay, where birds of purple plumage fan their feathers atop Lincoln Log cottages, and the hum of a two-story turbine breathes life and light into the sleepy seaside town. Visitors search for shimmering seashells, but the Captain searches for her--the one who cracked through his chest with a hammer and zip-lined straight to his heart.
